I learnt the secret of driving manual cars today. As you may remember, we had our paddock slashed and baled several days ago. Well today, the slasher lent us his ute to pick up those bails. He even said that one of us kids could drive it around! Naturally I, being the only one who can drive, was appointed to do the driving. My job was to drive down the rows and stop every time there were some bails lying around. My dad did the hard work of throwing them on. Each ute load held exactly 24 bails, and we did four loads. That meant that we transported 96 bails!

Today is Australia Day, and to anyone who doesn’t know why we are cebrating it, I’ll remind you. We are celebrating Australia Day because 219 years ago to the day, the First Fleet landed in Sydney. Every Australia Day, many people become Australian Citezens in a special ceremony. Anyway, enough history and on to a recount of the celebrations at Yeppoon.
First up we went to the area in front of the KBSC, where we had read in the Mirror (the local paper), that they were offering free sailing boat rides. My sisters and I all had a ride, and they mostly enjoyed it. I decided that going out in the motorised rubber boat was more fun than sailing, which was a bit too slow for my liking.
After the boat rides, which took at least an hour and a ½, we went up to the entertainment area, where we watched the Big Top Circus. Well actually, there wasn’t any big top and the sole contents of the circus were 2 – 3 clowns and a hula-hooper. I didn’t think that they were that good.
After that we hang around the stalls for a while, bumped into some people that we knew, and then left. The total time that we spent at the celebrations was about 3 hours, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Below are some photos that I took while I was there.
As you must have guessed by the title, today was a really nice one. Although the temperature was a bit hot, there was a gentle breeze blowing that counteracted the heating effect. I decided to join my sisters in the dam this morning, and I had a great time. Most of the fun was caused by some water flippers, like the ones used to go snorkeling. They allowed me to go much faster than I normally could with no flippers. Once I took the flippers off though, my feet felt a bit strange. It would be like swimming with your hands for a while, then cutting them off and trying to swim without them.
The Slasher
Today, and for the past 3 days, we have had a slasher slashing our paddocks. Today he was raking up all the grass, as you can see by the photos below.
The Tripod
Now, about the tripod. From what I can read on the tripod, it is a Gitza–Gilux, Weekend–Performance, made in France. The head that we put on it is a Manfrotto, made in Italy. It is a fairly small tripod, with 2 extra leg sections to make it taller. The head is a bit big for it, as the tripod that I have didn’t come with a head. Because of that we had to take the head off another tripod that my dad had. I think the most useful things for it will be taking long exposure and supermacro shots. The following is my list of the top picnic spots on the Capricorn Coast, ordered by distance away from Yeppoon, starting from furtherest away.
Kemp Beach
This picnic spot is actually part of the Capricorn Coast National Park. It’s located right on the beach, and walking trails that go around the hill near it are very popular with joggers. There are many bush turkeys living around the area too, so it is not advisable to leave food unattended.
