Camping at Red Rock State Forest

A few weeks ago my family and I went camping with a group of friends to a place called Red Rock, which is located around the Byfield area. We camped there for one weekend, and did some exploring around all the interesting forestry tracks. I’ve included some photos below of the lovely Stony Creek that runs through the camping area, as well as some views of the Red Rock area.

The facilities at Red Rock are pretty good. There are men’s and women’s toilets, taps (although you’re not supposed to drink the water), camping areas, picnic tables and a car track around the whole camping area. The road into Red Rock is all dirt, but it’s only a few kilometres long. There is also a self-registration booth at the entrance to camping area.

In summer Red Rock is known for its terrible swarms of mosquitoes, but in winter they’re all dead and we were only bothered by one or two single mosquitoes.

Below are some of the photos that I took while camping at Red Rock:

One of the many forestry tracks winding in and around the Red Rock area. They're all dirt, but hardly anyone uses them and they're really good for long walks or rides.

Some baby pine trees next to the road in to Red Rock. The forestry department log these trees once they grow big enough.

A few more pine trees, which appear to be leaning a lot but really aren't. It's just the camera angle.

The beautiful Stony Creek running just down from the camping area. This particular spot is about 800m downstream from the camping area.

Looking downstream in the other direction from the above photo. I reckon it looks like somewhere from the Northern Territory! But don't worry about crocodiles too much, the water in the creek was much too cold for crocodiles to survive in it.

Yeppoon Photo Panoramas

Recently I added a new page to the YeppoonInfo Articles section, which contains photo panoramas of the Yeppoon and Capricorn Coast region.

At the moment the panoramas are only in JPEG format, and there a not many 360 degree views. However I plan to add 360 views in the Quicktime VR format, which allows people to pan and zoom around in a full circle.

Anyway, please have a look at the photo panoramas and tell me which ones you like best. For your information, I photographed most of them using my Canon A720 and the included photo stitching software.

Google Street View comes to Yeppoon!

Well today I was very excited to read that Google has launched its street view service, which allows people to view streets as if they’re walking or driving up them, has been launched in Australia. This includes Yeppoon, so I spent some time looking around at all the street view locations. It seems that most of Australia’s medium to large towns and cities are covered, along with major highways. If you go to this address, you can see which parts of Australia are covered.

To see a street view, just go to Google Maps Australia and click the street view tab in the top right corner. If there is street view available in that area the streets will appear outlined in blue. To look at the street using street view, just double click the blue outline.

Computer Problems

I thought I’d better let you know why there’s been an absence of the daily photo series and normal posts. Well the answer is that I’ve lost quite a few recent photos due to my hard drive’s space running out. As a result of that I’ve purchased another computer with a hard drive that’s 4 times bigger. Stay tuned at JylanWynne.com/Blog for a more detailed post abou the new computer when it arrives (hopefully early this week).

I will not be posting any more daily photos until the new computer arrives, but I might be able to do a post about our weekend camping trip at Byfield in the meantime :-).

Update: My post about Red Rock has now been finished.
