Rockhampton Flood Photos

Yesterday we went into Rockhampton, so we went and had a look at the Fitzroy river in flood. I was amazed, because this is the first real flood I’ve seen in real life, and everything looks so strange. I took lots of photos of the Fitzroy in flood, and I’ve put some of my picks below.

Looking out over the flooded Fitzroy River
This view shows how some of the shelters along the Fitzroy river that are over halfway submerged.

Some half submerged trees
These trees are normally high and dry with a spare, but the mighty Fitzroy River is conquering them :) .

A submerged sign in the water
A very wet sign.

The Fitzroy River Marker
This marker shows the different levels that the Fitzroy has reached over the years. It will be interesting to see if they mark 2008 on there.

A Flooded Road
Right next to the river there are roads leading to the carparks and picnic areas. This particular one is blocked off.

SES Cadets Breakup Night

Last night we had out SES Cadet breakup night. We arrived at SES HQ at 4:00pm, and then a bus driver (from St Brendens I think) kindly drove us into Rocky. Unfortunately the girls from St Ursulas had their formal on that night, so none of them turned up. All in all we had 14 people, including us kids, the SES leaders and the bus driver.

One thing the pictures below don’t show is that we went to Domino’s Pizza after bowling. I got a Vegorama while the others all got Meatlovers. But anyway, on to the photos!

Rockhampton Bowling #1
The Rockhampton Ten Pin Bowling Arcade. At first they had the Ultra Violet lights on but as you can see below, they turned them off after a while and just put the normal lights on. In UV light, everything the colour white glows.

Rockhampton Bowling #4
After we had finished bowling but before we went to Domino’s, they gave us our first aid certificates and statements of participation for being in the SES. I have to renew my CPR in November 2008, while my first aid skills don’t need to be tested again until November 2010.

Baby Rats Sold

Yesterday we drove into Rocky to pick up some furniture for my sister and to sell the rest of the baby rats (we had 10 to sell).

First of all we went to the big pet store in the Redhill shopping centre, where my sisters asked if they wanted any rats. It turned out they wanted all of the female rats (there were 7 of them) which they were willing to pay $2 each for. The rats had just been installed in their new cages when the girl working there had to ring her boss for some reason. The boss then said that he only wanted to pay $1.50 per rat, which meant that instead of receiving $14 dollars they would only receive $10.50. My sisters sold them anyway.

We then went to the Aussie Tender Centre to pick up the piece of furniture.

After picking the furniture up we drove down to another pet place that we knew of called Webby’s Pet and Grain Barn. Because we weren’t sure if they sold rats or not, one of my sisters ran in to ask. They did sell rats, so we all walked in. I went around taking photos of all the beautiful birds that they sell. Anyway, the owner of the pet barn was very nice and gave the girls the full $3 that they wanted for each rat. He also said that most of the pet-shops will rip you off when buying baby rats. For example, the first pet-shop that we went to only payed $1.50 for the rats, then sold them for $5.00.

All in all, it was a good trip into Rocky. Below is a photo of the Webby’s pet barn sign.
