Pictures of a Bogged Grader + Rescue Efforts
September 17, 2007 | 2:01 pmThis morning I was hanging around at the front gate to see if anything interesting was happening with the roadworks (I’ll be writing more about that soon) that are happening just near our place. Anyway, along came this grader who started to rip off the top layer of grass on the side of the road. Unknown to him (and me) there was water flowing where he was grading. The grader sank into the soft dirt and when the operator realised he tried to reverse out of it.

Spinning the wheels just made the matter worse, with the grader sinking more and more into the mud. Eventually the operator gave up trying to extricate the grader and hopped out. After a while he pulled out his phone and took a few pictures. He then asked another operator to come and pull his machine out.
Once the other machine came they hooked up a thick chain between the backs of both machines and started to pull. After much tyre turning on the part of the rescue machine the operators conferred together and decided that the machine doing the pulling should go and pick up a pile of dirt to increase its weight.

Once this had been done the grader came out the mud quite easily. You can also see the marks that the rescue vehicle made on the road in the last photo.
