Hey, that sounds like a great idea, especially for me as I'm new :-). I have some photos of various beaches around Emu Park and further down south, would you be able to use them?

Hey everyone, I'm thinking about doing a series of posts about Capricorn Coast beaches. Each post would focus on one specific beach like Farnborough or Nine Mile Beach, and would include pictures showing a general view.

Who thinks this is a good idea? If anyone has pictures they'd like me to use please send them over and I might include them if I do the series :-).

Hey Peter, I'm usually up surfing with my mates at a spot halfway to Corio Bay on the weekends, its got some fairly good waves there. When Cyclone Hamish was hovering off the coast there were even a few good waves straight off the main beach! Pity we can't have waves as good as that all the time.

Anyway that surf spot on the way to Corio Bay can be accessed via the Beach with a 4WD, just make sure you have a beach permit from Rocky Council if you're new to the area. Its a bit hard to describe where exactly it is, but as I said on the weekends there are usually quite a few cars around so you should see them. Also the beach is a bit different with heaps of shells scattered all over the sand.

Hope that helps!

Hi, I'm new to the area, just wondering if anyone could recommend any good surfing spots around Yeppoon? I know not to expect any huge waves, but something is better than nothing I guess! :D.

OK Graham, I contacted the Historical Society (Thanks for helping out!) and I've embedded there reply below:

Vincent Edward Jones was the member for Callide when he opened the Rockhampton to Emu Park Road in 1965 and also the Emu Park Surf Lifesaving Club house in 1960.

A quick check of records tells me that Vincent Edward Jones MLA was a member of the Queensland Parliament in the seat of Callide from 29.04.1950–30.10.1971.

As far as I can ascertain there is no other connection with the coast. He was probably the minister for transport when he opened the road.

I hope that it answers your question ok!

In between Yeppoon and Emu Park along Kemp Beach is the Vincent Edward Jones Memorial Drive. Can anyone post some information here as to who Vincent Edward Jones was/is?
